Scandinavian fine art - antiques of the future?
I can only speak for myself,
but I LOVE Scandinavian fine art glass and now it seems so do many of you
out there too. There has been an explosion of interest in classic Scandinavian
design products recently, particularly in glass ware, with some pieces
commanding amazingly high prices especially the big, colourful sculptural designs
by leading artists such as Jacob and Michael Bang and Per Lutken at Holmegaard.
The most highly prized
Scandinavian fine art glass dates only from the 1940's onwards - hardly
'antique', but nevertheless, classic Scandinavian design products have become a
booming collector's area for those able to invest their money in the 'antiques'
of the future.
If you want to do your
homework, 'Scandinavian Glass: Creative Energies' by William L Geary and
'Scandinavian Glass 1930-200: Smoke and Ice' by Leslie A Pina, both available
from Amazon, are excellent sources of further information on the subject;
chronicling the creations which arose from the Scandinavian countries of Denmark,
Sweden, Finland and Norway and give company histories, designer biographies on
people such as Tapio Wikkala, Timo Sarpaneva, Vicke Lindstrand, Edward Hald,
Nanny Still, Erik Hoglund and dozens of others, as well as including price
guides for the serious collectors of Scandinavian fine art glassware.
The key to buying these
classic Scandinavian design products is to buy cheap and what cheaper place can
there be but eBay? So, I’ve gathered
here the best of Scandinavian Fine Art for you to drool over and see for
yourself just how beautiful Scandinavian glass is and how cheaply you can
invest in antiques of the future! Happy
hunting!
